Hungarian far-right party taking off the LGBT flag from the Budapest City Hall re-elected its leader

Laszlo Toroczkai was re-elected leader of the radical nationalist non-parliamentary Mi Hazank (Our Homeland) party at its congress in Budapest on Saturday.

Delegates to the congress also elected the board that will lead the party’s 2022 general election campaign, Toroczkai told reporters during a break in the meeting.

Dora Duro and Elod Novak have been re-elected as the party’s deputy leaders and they will be joined in their roles by MP Istvan Apati, Zoltan Pakusza, Mi Hazank’s Miskolc representative, and David Docs, mayor of the village of Cserhathalap in northern Hungary.

Concerning his party’s future direction, Toroczkai said the delegates had approved the political direction Mi Hazank has pursued up to this point.

The party does not want to be a part of either the “united left-liberal bloc or the power centre around [ruling] Fidesz”, he added.

“Instead Mi Hazank wants to build a Hungarian national economy that benefits the Hungarian people rather than foreigners or oligarchs,” Toroczkai said.
