10+1 educational apps to use during quarantine

Quarantine is hard. So, it’s working from home, taking online classes, and trying to keep your children occupied all day while also getting your work done. Here, we have compiled some great educational apps that you can let your kids play with, as they are not only fun but also educational.

There are both free and premium apps available here, although some are only free during the pandemic. Some of them are not only for children but can also be used by adults who want to further their skills.

Maths

Prodigy is a free, fantasy-themed, Maths-based game. You get points and stars for solving problems. It is recommended for ages 7 to 13, is available for Apple and Android, and it is free.

Math Games offers 21 interactive games. You can also choose to play based on age or grade from ages 4 to 14, or based on which skill you may want to practice. It is available on desktop.

Funbrain Jr has interactive Maths games and puzzles for little ones, as well as a Stories section where they have picture books. The more games they complete, the more stickers they get as a reward. It is available on desktop and on Apple.

Languages

Duolingo is not only for children, but it is popular among many adults. It is a free language learning app, and it might be fun to try with your children. It has illustrations in it, so even if your child cannot read, you can do it together. It is available on desktop and on Apple and Android.

Drops offers over 35 languages, in which you can learn vocabulary through fun games with simple images and visuals. They also have audio content, recorded by professional voice actors, so everything is crystal-clear. It is available on both Apple and Android for free and offers in-app purchases.

ABCmouse is an early learning academy, which offers children aged 2 to 8 all kinds of classes, such as Maths, Science, Reading, Arts, and Music. Children can participate in fun, educational games and puzzles. The first month is free, and after that, it has a monthly fee of $9.95.

Talented & Gifted is an app for children aged 2 to 10 that helps them learn in a fun and engaging way. It offers video lessons, interactive exercises, and games on topics like math, reading, writing, and science. The app adapts to each child’s level to ensure the most effective learning experience. Kids Academy is available on Apple and Android devices. The app includes free content, but a subscription is required for full access.

HippoCampus is run by the Monterey Institute for Technology and Education. It provides over 3,000 videos in 13 different subjects, such as Science, Geometry, English, History, and much more. It is available on desktop.

Yousician is an app for online music classes. Many children start learning to play an instrument in elementary school, but now, they cannot attend their classes for obvious reasons. This app offers lessons for guitar, piano, bass, and other instruments as well. Unfortunately, there is only a seven-day free trial, after that, you can get a subscription for $19.99 a month, or $119.99 per year (which would be $9.99 per month). The app is available on desktop, Apple, and Android.
