State gas distributor Fogaz takes over E.ON customers

Budapest, January 2 (MTI) – Fogaz, the gas distributor operated by Hungary’s state-owned utilities company ENKSZ, has taken over the 600,000 retail customers of German-owned E.ON as of January 1 this year, Gabor Kralik, the CEO of Fogaz, said on Saturday.

Fogaz won the right to take over the retail customers of the local gas units of E.ON and France’s GDF Suez last summer, after they turned in their licences.

Fogaz is now gas distributor to local customers in the counties of Fejer, Tolna, Baranya, Somogy, Zala and Veszprem, in western Hungary, under a universal service provider licence it concluded with the clients for an unlimited period of time, Kralik told MTI.

Fogaz will open customer service points in the six county seats and the two other major cities on January 4 in addition to the 51 service desks operated already at postal offices.

Fogaz had as gas distributor a portfolio of around 800,000 retail customers in Budapest at the beginning of last year which it gradually expanded from April and increased by 60,000 in August when it took over the retail customers of Magyar Telekom.

The company is serving at present 2.2 million clients, a number it is slated to increase by taking over 1.2 million customers of regional gas distributor Tigaz in October this year at the latest, said Kralik.
