Forint firms 0.5pc to euro in year

Budapest, January 1 (MTI) – The forint firmed by 1.69 forints or 0.5 percent to the euro between the end of 2014 and 2015, MTI’s business news service Econews calculated on the basis of the last official fixing of the National Bank of Hungary (NBH).
The official fixing rate was 313.12 forints to the euro on December 31, 2015, slighly up from 314.89 forints on the last day of 2014.
The slight strengthening could help the reduction of Hungary’s Maastricht-conform year-end state debt. Official statistics, among them government debt calculations, convert foreign currency items into forint at the official NBH fixing rates.
NBH statistics released on Thursday showed Hungary’s Maastricht government debt stood at 78.0 percent of GDP at the end of the third quarter, up from 76.2 percent at the end of 2014.
