Chief prosecutor: threat of terrorism prompts changes

Budapest, November 17 (MTI) – The threat of terrorism prompts changes and plans are being made for new measures and new organisational solutions, the chief public prosecutor said on Tuesday.

Peter Polt told public radio Kossuth that the focus will be placed on crimes that help terrorist acts, such as money laundering, which could finance terrorist attacks. It is currently “rather cumbersome” to use information gathered by secret-service methods, he said. By making this process simpler, producing evidence could become more effective in various cases, such as corruption, he added.

Polt said the requirement for having to provide a specific purpose when gathering and using data should be amended. Rules on immediate measures that can be implemented based on information gathered through secret methods also need to be changed and organisational changes are needed as well, he said.
