Offical foreign ministry meeting with ambassadors from Southeast Asian countries

Budapest, October 27 (MTI) – Hungary resolutely supports the development of economic cooperation between the European Union and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Tuesday at a meeting with ambassadors from Southeast Asian countries in Budapest.
The foreign ministry said in a statement that 3.5 million refugees live in Southeast Asia, including 1.9 million internal refugees, who could easily decide to leave the region for Europe because of armed conflicts and difficult economic circumstances.
“Hungary resolutely supports the development of economic cooperation between the EU and the ASEAN which could result in economic developments that reduce migration from Southeast Asia,” the statement said citing Szijjarto.
In order to further develop bilateral relations, Hungary will open new embassies in Manila and Kuala Lumpur, and a consulate general in Ho Chi Minh City.
