Medical officer says no need to order compulsory health screening of migrants

Budapest, October 21 (MTI) – There is no need to order compulsory health screenings for migrants because the current state of affairs does not justify announcing a crisis situation, the national medical officer said on Wednesday.
Judit Pallér noted that an amendment to the health law approved on Tuesday authorises the medical officer to make health screening compulsory in crisis situations caused by mass migration.
Accordingly, if a migrant submits an asylum request in a transit zone, then a medical examination is carried out and he or she can enter Hungary only after this document is granted, she told public news channel M1.
The most common diseases among migrants are those transmitted through blood or sexually, such as hepatitis B and C, syphilis, she said.
