Good relations with the government
By choosing Budapest Airport, the jury assessed that it was able to diversify its activities after the bankruptcy of Malev (the former Hungarian national airlines) in 2012, and it could make the airport grow through pioneering strategic initiatives. It could attract several new airlines to replace Malev; the passenger traffic increased by 8% last year and 13% this year so far – the explanation says. The solid financial basis provides opportunity for further development: in the medium term, cargo base, pier and check-in hall can be built. The explanatory statement highlights Budapest Airport’s relationship with the government which is at “historical peak”.
“Airport of the Year award is an especially important feedback for us, since the turnover of Budapest Airport is breaking records and it means a lot that, in addition to the positive feedbacks of our passengers, CAPA, one of the world’s leading market research and analyst company, recognizes our work at a professional level as well” – Jost Lammers, CEO of Budapest Airport said in Helsinki.
