Hungarian police suspend border crossing at Roszke, Asotthalom

Budapest, September 15 (MTI) – Hungarian police suspended traffic at the Roszke and Asotthalom border crossings with Serbia at 7am on Tuesday, a department head of the national police said.
The Serbian authorities have been duly informed about the measure, border control department head Laszlo Balazs told a press conference.
The measure was taken because a large number of migrants was staying on the Serbian side of the border and therefore the Hungarian authorities could not carry out border checks appropriately, he said.
A decision to reopen the border crossings can be made by the national police chief, Balazs said.
This year 200,778 illegal immigrants have been recorded in Hungary until Monday midnight. The number of illegal entrants recorded at the Serbian border was 8,850 on Monday alone, he said.
