Hungary registers over 180,000 illegal entries so far this year

Budapest, September 12 (MTI) – There have been 181,014 illegal entries registered so far in Hungary this year with 2,827 illegal entrants detained on Friday alone, Tibor Lakatos, department head of the national police, told a press conference Saturday.
The number of asylum applications submitted until midnight on Friday was 166,465, of which 2,093 were submitted on that day alone, Attila Kiss, the deputy director of the national immigration office, said.
He said that 2,215 people were reported staying at reception centres in Hungary on Saturday morning. “The situation at these places was quiet and in order”, he said.
In the meantime, construction of a 40-metre section of fencing to close the gap at the rail tracks linking Horgos in Serbia with Roszke in Hungary began on Saturday morning.
In Szentgotthard, Hungary’s westernmost town at the Austrian border, the setup of a registration point for 400 people began on Saturday morning and is expected to be completed by Sunday, the mayor told MTI.
