Ruling Fidesz raises support in June, possibly on migration issue

Budapest (MTI) – Among all Hungarians, the ruling parties received 30 percent support in June as against 27 percent in May, according to a poll conducted by Nezopont as part of a survey on migration.

Support for the radical nationalist Jobbik party dropped from 16 percent in May to 14 percent in June, the poll added.

The Socialists had 8 percent support in the whole sample, up from 7 percent in May. DK stood on 6 percent, unchanged from the previous month, and Egyutt and PM each had 1 percent of support. LMP lost 2 points from May and stood on 4 percent, it said.

Fully 33 percent said they would not vote or declined to respond, the research institute said.

Among decided voters who are sure to vote and know which party they support, the ruling Fidesz-KDNP had 41 percent, Jobbik 26 percent, the Socialists 12 percent, DK 11 percent, LMP 5 percent, Egyutt 2 percent, and the PM and the Liberals 1 percent each, the poll said.

Nezopont said that since the rejection of illegal migration has become a topic across all party preferences, this may have been the reason why the ruling Fidesz-Christian Democrats “have regained their popularity”.

The phone survey was carried out on June 19-25 with a sample of 1,000.
