House speaker, Azeri minister discuss economic cooperation

Baku (MTI) – Hungarian House Speaker Laszlo Kover discussed bilateral economic relations with Azerbaijan’s Economy and Industry Minister Shahin Mustafayev in Baku on Thursday.

They welcomed a development in the two countries’ political, economic, parliamentary and educational relations and a growth trend in bilateral trading since 2013, the press chief of the Hungarian parliament said.

Mustafayev, who has served as co-chair of the Hungarian-Azerbaijani Intergovernmental Cooperation Committee for more than five years, noted that the implementation of the 40 bilateral agreements is under way, said Zoltan Szilagyi.

“The trading house Hungary opened in Baku in 2012 has also contributed to boosting our trade relations,” the Azerbaijani minister said.

Hungary has the largest volume of bilateral trade in goods with Azerbaijan in the South Caucasus region, Kover said.

“Hungary regards Azerbaijan a strategic partner in energy cooperation,” Kover said, indicating Hungary’s interest in projects linked to the Southern Gas Corridor to serve the country’s goal of diversifying its energy resources and import routes.

The sides identified further cooperation possibilities in education, culture and tourism.
