Jobbik: If Orbán cannot clear his mafia government, he has to resign

“The biggest problem is that the FBI has already informed the Hungarian authorities on the matter but they didn’t wish to interrogate this person even though he was wanted in Hungary, too,” this is how Jobbik MP György Szilágyi reacted to the EUR-3-4-billion money laundering scandal disclosed by an article published in Hungarian daily Magyar Nemzet.

According to Magyar Nemzet, the FBI has a Hungarian man in its witness protection programme in the US and this individual was a member of the chain helping EUR 3-4 billion land on Arab bank accounts over the past years. For some reason, the Hungarian authorities don’t want to interrogate this person even though the US repeatedly offered them to do so. Read more HERE.

The politician raised the question why the Hungarian authorities were so reluctant to investigate this matter. “Perhaps because they know exactly who this man is, they know all the details of the case and they are fully aware of its connections to the government and Viktor Orbán,” he suggested.

According to Mr Szilágyi, the new information helps put the pieces of the puzzle together and makes it clearer why Orbán wanted to be friends with Ghaith Pharaon, an individual wanted by both the FBI and the Interpol and involved in money laundering, drug and arms trafficking cases. Pharaon was an expert of money laundering and Hawala, the parallel value transfer system.

Jobbik’s MP says the information helps connect the dots concerning the Hungarian citizens banned from the US earlier. He reminded the journalists that the US authorities had caught a courier landing with a private jet and flaunting USD millions, a sum certified by then Hungarian Tax Authority President Ildikó Vida. The information also sheds light on the earlier news that the US was considering banning Orbán and some members of his government from its territory.

This scandal may also explain why President Trump refused to meet Mr Orbán even though the PM had fervently supported him before the US elections and Hungary’s diplomacy spared no effort to organize a Trump-Orbán summit.

Interestingly enough, the sum of HUF 1300 billion, which they attempted to launder in the US, happens to equal the suspicious amount involved in Minister Lajos Kósa’s affair. Mr Szilágyi believes these charges are so serious that the members of the Orbán government must publicly account for their role in the matter.

Instead of running from the questions like a coward, Viktor Orbán should answer them, the MP emphasized. “Even though there are only two weeks before the elections, if Orbán is unable to clear his name, he should resign and leave Hungary’s political sphere for good,” Mr Szilágyi stated, adding that Jobbik was going to oust the government on April 8 and help the authorities to uncover the entire case.
