National utilities company to enter electricity market by start of 2016

Budapest, April 20 (MTI) – Hungary’s First National Utilities Company (ENKSZ) is expected to start offering electricity services by the beginning of next year at the latest, the company’s chief executive, Peter Janos Horvath, said in an interview published in daily Magyar Hirlap on Monday.
Horvath said there was still much work to be done before ENKSZ can start offering district heating services because of the peculiarities of the market.
ENKSZ was recently established by the government to act as an efficient, predictable and cheap utilities provider. It started operating on the gas market this month, partnering with state-owned Fogaz, and will later launch on the electricity and district heating markets.
Horvath said ENKSZ could not promise to undercut its competitors, but it would weigh any steps to reduce operating costs and pass these savings on to consumers.
