Culture, education, human rights crucial even in conflict areas, says UNESCO envoy

Paris, December 18 (MTI) – Preserving the cultural heritage, protecting human rights and supporting education are crucial responsibilities even in areas of conflict, Katalin Bogyay, Hungary’s outgoing ambassador to UNESCO, said in an interview to MTI.

In her interview, Bogyay highlighted Hungary’s role as a mediator in the international community, an advantage in multilateral diplomatic ties, and noted that Hungary’s contributions as a consultant are globally appreciated.

“Hungary is respected because it has always been straightforward about what it can contribute to the development of mankind,” she said.

Bogyay will head Hungary’s UN representation in New York from next month. In her new position, she will apply UNESCO’s “holistic” approach based on education to promote peace in the world, she said.
