Nuclear authority signs agreement with Russian partner

Moscow, December 10 (MTI) – The heads of the Hungarian Energy Authority and Russian partner Rostekhnadzor signed an agreement on scientific-technical cooperation in Moscow on Wednesday.

The agreement enables an exchange of information about licencing, safety regulation and supervision for the peaceful use of nuclear energy, the discussion of legal and technical issues and assistance in possible problems, the Hungarian authority’s head Gyula Fichtinger said. Talks about the renewal of a 2001 agreement have been ongoing for years, he added.

The Hungarian and Russian experts will also exchange information on safety regulations, transport and safe storage of radioactive waste and spent fuel, Fichtinger said.

The Hungarian authority signed similar agreements earlier this year with the Finnish and Turkish authorities. Hungary has altogether signed 11 bilateral contracts with international authorities about the peaceful use of nuclear energy, he added.
