EU should not restrict successful states in economic development, says official

Budapest, November 3 (MTI) – Hungary has been fulfilling the Europe 2020 targets at above-average speed but in order to maintain this pace, the European Union should not restrict successful states in their economic autonomy, an economic ministry official said on Monday.

Deputy state secretary for economic planning and competitiveness Laszlo Turoczy gave a half-time review of the Europe 2020 strategy to parliament’s European affairs committee.

Enforcing identical regulations in member states will not make the EU more competitive, Turoczy said. The community’s competitiveness will result from the sum of its individual members becoming more competitive, he insisted.
