President Ader: UN Secretary-General Counts on Hungary’s Support

New York, September 24 (MTI) – Secretary-General of the United Nations Ban Ki-moon continues to rely on Hungary’s support in the fight against climate change, President Janos Ader said after talks at the UN headquarters in New York on Tuesday evening local time.

Ader told MTI that Ban welcomed the support received from Hungary.

“I assured the Secretary-General that Hungary, like in the past, will remain his ally in the fight against climate change which he started many years ago,” he added. He said the alliance struck at their first meeting two years ago was confirmed at the meeting.

Ban praised the work of Hungarian diplomacy and especially head of the Hungarian mission in the UN Csaba Korosi, who had co-chaired a working team that prepared goals for sustainable development. Korosi played a key role in the success of putting together a document that was acceptable to all countries, and Ban has repeatedly expressed his gratitude for this, Ader said.

The Ukraine crisis was also discussed at the meeting, Ader added, noting that Hungary has a double interest in conflicts being resolved, considering that Ukraine is a neighbouring country with some 200,000 ethnic Hungarians living there.
