EU foreign ministers in Brussels – Sanctions against Russia ‘failure’, says Hungarian minister

Brussels, February 6 (MTI) – The European Union’s sanctions against Russia have failed both politically and economically, Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on the sidelines of a meeting with his EU counterparts in Brussels on Monday.
Brussels has taken the wrong approach in dealing with the challenging situation in Ukraine, Szijjártó told reporters, arguing that sanctions were ineffective.
Besides severely denting Europe, the sanctions have failed in helping to enforce the Minsk ceasefire agreement, he said.
On the subject of Ukraine, Szijjártó said the EU’s refusal to grant the country visa-free status despite its fulfilling all requirements had been “unfair”. He also urged progress on the EU-Ukraine free-trade agreement. It would be genuinely helpful if the EU granted Ukraine the chance to enjoy the free flow of people, goods and services, he added.
