PM’s office calls for united front against anti-Semitism, racism

Budapest, January 27 (MTI) – The message of the Holocaust is that while remembering its victims, Europe and the entire world must fight all forms of anti-Semitism and racism, the Prime Minister’s Office said on Friday marking International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

International Holocaust Remembrance Day calls on all good willing people to come together and “cure both the visible and invisible wounds” left behind by the Holocaust and the second world war, the office said in a statement.

It was in this spirit that Hungary’s government declared the year 2014 a Holocaust memorial year and supports the renovation of synagogues and the rehabilitation of derelict Jewish cemeteries throughout the country, the statement said.

In connection with the fight against anti-Semitism and racism, the PM’s office said people must speak out against both forms of discrimination even when Europe’s Judeo-Christian roots “come under threats of violence or terrorist attacks”.

The UN General Assembly designated Jan. 27 as International Holocaust Remembrance Day in November 2005.
