Metro Line 3 has been functioning since 1976. It connects Újpest-Központ in the North with Kőbánya-Kispest in the South and has twenty stops. Metro Line 3 is also connected to the brand new Metro Line 4 at Kálvin tér.
According to the proposal to be discussed, there are three types of trains currently in use: 66 of EV3 trains (35 – 40 years old), 185 of 81-717 trains (25 – 35 years old) and 10 of 81-717.2M trains (in use since 2000). The renovation is obviously indispensable.
The government also supports the plans of the Municipality of Budapest in renovating Metro Line 3. They would prefer the renovation of the trains and also approve plans to finance it with the help of a loan.
Mno.hu says that the plans of the Municipality of Budapest on renovating Metro Line 3 thus “got the green light”. According to mno.hu, the mayor of Budapest announced that the trains are planned to be renovated in 2015, and the renewal project could be fully finished by 2019.
