Pest county, Budapest, Nitra region to form EGTC

(MTI) – The council of Pest county on Friday voted in unison to go into a European Grouping for Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) with the city of Budapest and Nitra Region in neighbouring Slovakia.
Although the city assembly has not yet voted on the project, cooperation would pave the way for a trilateral development projects part-financed from EU funds, including the Danube Strategy, a statement of the press department at Pest county said.
Programmes under the ECTC scheme will envisage road and bridge building, water quality control, promoting tourism, culture and river transport, communications chief Andras Ambrus said.
The Ipoly valley, an underdeveloped region along the border, is particularly hoped to benefit from cooperation, he said.
